Gifts in Wills help us plan for the future. With an ageing population, ever-increasing need and a health system under significant pressure, every gift is important in enabling us to continue to support people during some of the toughest times of their lives.

Most importantly, a gift in your Will is a beautiful reflection of who and what is most important to you.

Ways to Leave a Gift in Your Will

A Residuary Gift

Leave a share of what remains of your estate once all your other wishes have been carried out.

A Pecuniary Gift

Leave a fixed and specific amount.

The value of this type of gift doesn't change as the value of your estate changes.

A Specific Gift

Leave a specific possession or item such as property or shares.

Many supporters choose to leave a residual gift as this ensures your family and loved ones take priority. Unlike a pecuiary or specific gift, the value of a residual gift is also less likely to decrease due to inflation.

Including Hospital Chaplaincy Aotearoa in Your Will

Writing or updating your Will doesn't have to be a complicated process, but we recommend that you talk to your solicitor or lawyer before doing so.

Seeking legal advice helps ensure that your Will is legally valid and gives you confidence in knowing your wishes for your loved ones and the causes you care most about will be carried out as you would like.

  • Why should I make a Will?
Your Will is an important legal document that helps protect your family and your wishes. It's a wonderful opportunity to pass on the values that are important to you. Dying without a Will can cause unnecessary distress to family and friends.
  • Should I let Hospital Chaplaincy Aotearoa know I've included a gift in my Will?
You don't have to let us know, however we would love the opportunity to thank you for your thoughtfulness and generosity! It also helps us strategically plan for the future to ensure we continue to help New Zealanders through some of their toughest times.
  • What if I already have a Will?
You can amend an existing Will to include Hospital Chaplaincy Aotearoa by asking a solicitor to draw up a 'codicil'. It's a straightforward and simple process.
  • How will my gift be used?
Every gift – no matter the size – is gratefully received because it ensures the continuing impact of our work. Your generous gift will help patients, families and hospital staff through their tough times. You'll help us expand chaplaincy services and provide spiritual and pastoral support for vulnerable members of your community for generations to come.
